The Treppo tree is characterized by medium-low vigor and a sparse, spreading crown shape. The variety is known under numerous synonyms, including Trep, Trepparol, Treppa, Creppo, Drop, Drupp, Matteozza, Tombolet and Tombolot.
The fruits have a black-violet color and skin with a waxy bloom, on which lenticels are visible. The variety is common in olive-growing areas of Italy, primarily in the regions of Trentino, Veneto and Lombardy, and is cultivated mainly for olive oil production.
