The rootstock was obtained as a result of breeding work in Poland. Its primary purpose is to establish intensive plum orchards with compact trees, which distinguishes it from traditional vigorous rootstocks such as Myrobalan plum.
Studies on the influence of the rootstock on various plum varieties showed that trees grafted onto Wala demonstrate significantly less vigor compared to those grown on Myrobalan plum. An acceleration of the onset of the fruiting period in grafted crops is also noted.
