This form is a breeding material most often classified as a seed rootstock. It provides good compatibility with a wide range of plum varieties and limits the vigor of the scion compared to vigorous rootstocks such as cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera).
It is important to distinguish this rootstock from the old German plum variety Wangenheims Frühzwetsche, as the Wangenheima S rootstock is a specialized selected form not intended for cultivation for the purpose of producing commercial fruit.
