The name Biancolella refers to a rare local pear variety typical of the Andria area. It is not a breeding variety in the classical sense, but rather an element of local biodiversity.

The fruits of this plant are characterized by their small size with an average weight of 30–50 g. The fruit shape is turbinate and asymmetrical, the skin is smooth, and it changes color from green-yellow to golden-yellow upon ripening.
