Variety description

10 August 2026

The Pi-BU 3 rootstock was bred within a breeding program in Dresden-Pillnitz. Its growth vigor occupies an intermediate position between pear seedlings and quince rootstocks, which classifies it as semi-dwarfing.

The material is characterized by easy propagation via softwood cuttings and the in vitro method. Compared to quince rootstocks, it possesses higher resistance to winter frosts. In a number of trials, lower sensitivity to pear rust was noted, however, susceptibility to the pear decline disease was recorded.
