The Winterblutbirne variety, also known as Benrother Winterblutbirne, is a chance seedling discovered in the 17th century in the Oberbergisch region, Germany. Currently, the variety is included in programs for the conservation of traditional crops.

The fruits are rounded in shape and distinguished by the presence of a red blush on the skin and a marbled pattern on the flesh. Picking maturity occurs at the end of September; consumption maturity lasts from mid-October to January. When using Quince A rootstock, the tree reaches a height of about 3 meters.

The plant is characterized as reliable and undemanding. The variety is used for fresh consumption; the best pollinator for it is the Conference variety.
