The variety is the result of crossing Rhododendron calophytum and 'Arnošt Silva Tarouca'. The plant forms a neat, well-branched shrub, reaching a height and width of about 1.0–1.1 m after 10 years.
Flowers with a diameter of about 8 cm have a light violet color with a dark purple-red pattern on the petals. The buds are red. Flowering occurs from mid-April to early May.
The frost resistance of the variety is rated down to -24°C. Due to early flowering dates, the plant may be at risk of damage from late spring frosts.
