The plant is an evergreen shrub with leathery dark or medium green lanceolate leaves. The bush tends to have a compact, upright, or wide-spreading growth habit, reaching a height of 1 to 2.5 meters and a width of up to 1.8 meters, depending on conditions.
The cherry-red flowers are gathered in dense racemose inflorescences; the buds are dark red when opening. The flowering period lasts from the third week of May to the second week of June. The variety is winter hardy (zone 6b, down to -20 °C) and requires acidic, humus-rich, and well-drained soils without waterlogging for cultivation.
