The plant is a tall, upright bush 40–60 cm in height. Spring foliage has a greenish or light violet hue, which changes to a deep purple-black color during the season. Flowering occurs from August to October, when large umbel inflorescences up to 20 cm in diameter of fuchsia color are formed.

The variety has high winter hardiness, corresponding to USDA zones 3–9, and good drought resistance. The plant prefers well-drained fertile soils and is sensitive to moisture stagnation. In excessively nutrient-rich soils, the stems may lose strength and lodge.
