Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is a local ecotype of Asturian spelt, known in Spain as escanda. The main purpose of its selection is to support traditional agricultural production and bread making in the region.

The plant possesses characteristics typical of spelt: a brittle ear and hulled grain, which requires special processing to remove the husk. Comparative studies have not revealed significant differences between Roxa and other local varieties in height, yield, ear length, and grain weight.
