The variety is autochthonous to the Alpes-Maritimes region in France. It belongs to the mid-late maturity group, characterized by high vigor, fertility, and stable yields. Short pruning is recommended for the variety; it develops best on poor, well-lit, and rapidly warming soils.
Mature leaves are round in shape, entire or three-lobed. Bunches are large, conical, winged, and of medium to high density. Berries are medium to large in size, round, dark blue in color with a waxy bloom. The variety is susceptible to gray mold (Botrytis cinerea).
Wines from this grape possess low color intensity, soft tannins, and characteristic aromas of red currant, spices, and pepper. There is a single certified clone numbered 1263.
