Greco is a collective name for several dozen varieties that are often unrelated. The best-known white representative of this group belongs to the late ripening period. The clusters are of medium or large size, the berries are of medium size, bright yellow in color, often with characteristic brown spots.

A variety for industrial use, it is used mainly for the production of varietal wines with an intense aroma, high acidity and minerality. It is distinguished by a high content of catechins. The crop is susceptible to major fungal diseases: downy mildew, powdery mildew and gray mold.

The origin of the variety is considered very ancient and is traditionally associated with Greek colonists in Southern Italy. However, modern studies show the genetic heterogeneity of the group, where different biotypes adapted to specific regions, for example, to the volcanic soils of Campania, can be hidden under a common name.
