The variety is autochthonous to the Alpes-Maritimes region and takes its name from the city of Grasse. It is included in the official French grape catalogue; however, due to its rarity, it is often confused with the Fuella Nera variety, with which it shares a morphological resemblance.

The grape belongs to the second late ripening era. The variety is distinguished by early bud break and high vigor, which requires the removal of excess shoots. For good and regular yields, short pruning is recommended. The crop prefers poor, well-warmed soils.

This wine grape variety is intended for the production of light wines with notes of pepper, floral aromas, and red berries. Currently, the variety has practically disappeared from widespread cultivation, but private attempts are being made to revive it.
