Sheegene-20
ActiveVitis vinifera L. · Common grape vine
TIMOTHY SHEEHAN
10 August 2026
The variety belongs to the category of traditional and rare varieties. Its cultivation was recorded at the beginning of the 20th century, after which it was practically forgotten, until specialists from the Institute for Regional Research and Development of the Agri-food and Forestry of Castilla-La Mancha (IRIAF) recovered it using ampelographic methods and microsatellite marker analysis.
Wines from this variety are characterized by a high content of C13-norisoprenoids, which indicates a specific aromatic profile. Currently, the variety is undergoing an official study process for inclusion in the catalog of varieties authorized for winemaking in the region, while it is already included in commercial grape variety registries.
