The variety is a hybrid bred in Bulgaria in the 1970s at research centers in the Sandanski region. It belongs to the group of derivatives of the autochthonous variety Shiroka melnishka loza and was created to improve its characteristics.
The grape is intended for the production of red wines. Its main region of cultivation is southwestern Bulgaria, the Struma River valley. The variety belongs to the category of late-ripening grape varieties.
