The variety is the result of a genetic cross between the Pinot and Gouais Blanc varieties. Historically, it was grown in the Yonne department in France. The vine has vigorous growth and a semi-upright habit, with five- or seven-lobed leaves with incisions to the center of the leaf, and open petiole sinuses.

Bunches and berries are small, the berries have a short oval shape. Budburst occurs simultaneously with the Chasselas variety, ripening occurs 1–1.5 weeks later. The yield of the variety is good but unstable; long pruning is recommended to improve it.

Wines from this variety have an intense yellow color, specific aromatics, and good alcohol content, but are prone to rapid oxidation. The variety is extremely susceptible to powdery mildew and gray mold. Currently, the variety has practically disappeared from commercial winemaking.
