The variety is an ancient mutation of the Chasselas (Gutedel) grape, sometimes considered the original form of the species. The plant is a climber; its height in cultivation is controlled by pruning. The variety is suitable for both fresh consumption and winemaking, where it is used to produce mainly white or rosé wines with mild acidity.

The clusters are large, elongated, and loose, with large round berries covered by a thin, firm skin. In warm regions, ripening occurs by the end of September — beginning of October. The variety has medium winter hardiness; its flowers are sensitive to low temperatures, and the plants themselves are prone to fungal diseases and Botrytis.
