The variety is a local cultivar traditionally grown on the island of El Hierro and the northwest of Tenerife. It is an ancient grape that has retained unique genetic lineages due to the absence of phylloxera in the archipelago. It is found under the synonyms Vijariego, Bujariego, Diego, and Vigiriego, with a separate genetically distinct red variety existing as Verijadiego Negro.

The plant possesses medium to high growth vigor and yield, and demonstrates disease resistance. Bunches are large; berries are greenish-yellow in color and juicy. The variety is adapted to hot and humid conditions, maintaining stable sugar and acidity levels.

The grape is primarily a wine variety used in winemaking. Wines made from it are characterized by pronounced acidity and aromas of green apples, pear, citrus, and herbaceous notes. High acid and sugar content allow the variety to be used for the production of sparkling wines.
