The variety is genetically independent from the widely distributed Verdejo and Verdelho varieties and is known by the synonyms Rufete Blanca and Perepinhao Portalegre. It is the subject of ongoing research programs for the restoration of grapevine genetic resources in Spain.

Morphologically, the variety is distinguished by small bunches with small berries that are tightly packed, which limits juice yield during pressing. Due to low productivity, the variety was partially abandoned after the phylloxera epidemic, and data on its agrotechnical indicators and disease resistance are currently limited.
