Variety description

The variety is autochthonous to Portugal, traditionally cultivated on the island of Madeira and in the Douro River valley. The vines have low to medium vigor with semi-erect shoots. The leaves are medium-sized, round, three- or five-lobed, slightly dissected and wavy.

The clusters are small or medium, broad-conical in shape, and often winged. The berries are medium-sized, oval, greenish-yellow in color, sometimes with a golden hue. The skin is thin, the flesh is juicy, sweet, with a neutral taste and aroma. The yield of the variety is low, amounting to 30–40 c/ha.

The variety is slightly affected by downy mildew and gray mold, but shows high susceptibility to powdery mildew and is relatively resistant to the European grapevine moth. Wines made from this grape are distinguished by their elegance, balanced acidity and aging potential.
