The variety is a hybrid of the species Vitis riparia and Vitis rupestris. It is characterized by moderate vigor and helps to restrain excessive vegetative activity of the scion. The vegetation period of the variety is about 175 days, which contributes to timely maturation of the crop.

The root system has high winter hardiness. The variety prefers deep, moist, and fertile soils, including moderately heavy clay soils, but it tolerates drought and high lime content poorly. The rootstock has good affinity with most cultivated grapevine varieties.

The plant is prone to strong lateral shoot formation, which requires regular green operations to produce high-quality cuttings. The flowers are functionally female; the small clusters that form with black berries have no commercial value and are used only for breeding purposes.
