The variety is native to Spain and has been mentioned in written sources since the 15th–16th centuries. Historically used as a table grape, it is currently in demand in winemaking for the production of varietal white wines and as part of blends to soften acidity and enrich aromatics.
The ripening period is early or early-mid, with harvest in central Spain occurring in mid-August. The plant is characterized by high drought tolerance, but is sensitive to late spring frosts and prone to berry shatter (millerandage).
The variety has low resistance to fungal diseases, especially to downy mildew and powdery mildew. The berries are medium, egg-shaped, pale yellow or golden in color with thin skin and fleshy, juicy pulp. Wines made from this grape are distinguished by aromas of tropical fruits, apples, and white flowers.
