Albillo real is an ancient autochthonous variety whose parent forms, according to DNA analysis results, are the varieties Hebén and Folha de Figueira. The variety was first described in literature at the beginning of the 16th century. The variety is distinguished by an early ripening period, while its vines are characterized by delicacy and difficulty in cultivation due to early bud break, which makes them sensitive to spring frosts.
Morphologically, the variety is represented by small compact clusters and medium-sized berries of golden-yellow color with thin skin. Wines from this variety possess a high concentration of glycerol, which gives them a full-bodied oily texture and aromas of white flowers. In addition to its use for wine production, the variety was historically used as a table grape and is often used in blends to enrich the aroma and taste qualities of wine.
