Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is autochthonous and is known by the synonyms Albarín Negro, Baboso Negro and Alfrocheiro. It is cultivated primarily in Asturias and Portugal, often on steep slopes. The variety has no genetic relationship with the white grape Albariño.

It is used for the production of red wines with good coloration, freshness and fine-grained tannins. Notes of red berries such as red currant and strawberry predominate in the wines. It is used both in blends and for creating varietal wines.
