The variety is considered ancient, presumably of Greek origin, brought to the island of Ischia in ancient times. Genetic studies have confirmed its identity with the Petite Blanche variety from Corsica and the San Nicola variety from the island of Capri.
The plant has good vigor and belongs to the medium-late ripening period. The leaves are medium, rounded, three- or five-lobed. The clusters are medium-sized, cylindrical-pyramidal in shape; berries are medium-sized, spheroid, yellowish-green in color with a waxy bloom.
The variety is sensitive to downy mildew and has acceptable resistance to other fungal diseases. It requires specific training and pruning. It is used for the production of single-varietal wines or in blends; the wines are characterized by good acidity, minerality, and aromas of white flowers, fruits, and almonds.
