The variety is of Spanish origin and is genetically an ancestor to such varieties as Danugue and Rojal Tinta. On the mainland of Spain, the white variety, called Breval on the islands, is known under the name Beba. There is also a variety called Breval Negro.

The variety is used for the production of white and red wines in blends. Detailed agrotechnical characteristics, yield parameters, and morphological traits are not presented in publications.
