The variety is traditional to the Camargue region and the Rhône valley. It belongs to the late-ripening category with late bud burst. Leaves are five-lobed. Clusters are medium, conical, ranging from loose to compact. Berries are medium, spherical or slightly ovoid, dark blue in color with a pronounced bloom.
The vine is characterized by vigorous growth and an upright habit. The variety prefers poor, warm soils and requires short pruning. It is characterized by high yield but is susceptible to coulure and uneven berry ripening. It has high sensitivity to downy mildew, powdery mildew, as well as grey rot and sour rot.
Wine from this variety is characterized by lightness, moderate color intensity, floral aroma, and spicy notes. In winemaking, it is mainly used in blends to provide balance and originality to the composition.
