The name Cot N refers to the Malbec variety, where the letter N denotes the black color of the berries. It originates from the Cahors region in France and is a hybrid of the varieties Magdeleine Noire des Charentes and Prunelard. It is a technical variety intended for the production of red wines of various aging.
The vines are medium-vigorous with three- or five-lobed leaves. The bunches are small or medium in size, conical in shape, and characterized by loose or medium density. The dark blue, almost black, medium-sized berries are covered with a waxy bloom and contain juicy, melting pulp.
The variety belongs to the mid-season maturity group. It is characterized by low resistance to downy mildew, gray mold, and anthracnose, as well as low winter hardiness and sensitivity to spring frosts. Yield is unstable due to a tendency for flower drop.
