The variety is the result of a cross between Madeleine Angevine and Teinturier du Cher. It is a mid-season variety with early bud burst, which makes it sensitive to spring frosts. Vine vigor varies from weak to above average, requiring the selection of appropriate rootstocks.
Bunches are medium-sized, cylindrical or cylindrical-conical, and medium-dense. Berries are medium to large, round, dark blue, and covered with an abundant waxy bloom. The pulp and juice have an intense pigmentation. The variety is sensitive to drought and has medium to low resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew; frost resistance is up to -22°C.
A wine grape variety intended for wine production. In varietal wines, it is characterized by moderate acidity, full body, and aromas of cherry and red berries, but it is more often used as an additive to increase the color intensity of other wines.
