Variety description

The variety belongs to the species Vitis vinifera L. and is an ancient local variety, unrelated to the French variety Duras. Genetically, it is a natural hybrid of the Marzemino and Coccalona Nera varieties.

The berries have black skin. The variety is primarily used in winemaking and has historically also been used as a table grape. Currently, the variety is considered rare; it is found in collections and old mixed plantings in Piedmont, where it is used in regional blends.

Synonyms of the variety are Erbaluce Nera, Erbaluce Nero, and Nera Lunga. Due to the rarity of the variety, detailed data on its agrotechnical characteristics, yield, and disease resistance on an industrial scale are practically non-existent.
