The Furmint T.85 clone is used for the production of technical wines and is officially included in the National Register of varieties of Hungary. Its designation indicates its breeding origin from the Tarcal region, a historical center of research for this variety.
This clone possesses high sugar accumulation rates, which is typical for quality Furmint. Comparative studies note that its acidity may differ from other clones, which allows for better balance in the finished wine.
Biologically, the clone is characterized by a late ripening period and a tendency to be affected by noble rot Botrytis cinerea. The plant is sensitive to frost and prone to the risk of rot under unfavorable growing conditions.
