The variety is an interspecific hybrid bred by Seibel-Villard. Its genetic origin is linked to the same crossing lines as the variety Villard Noir. The index "N" in the name indicates the dark color of the berries.
As a direct producer hybrid, the variety was created with an emphasis on increased resistance to diseases and adverse conditions. Currently, the variety has lost its broad industrial significance, and its use for the production of quality wines in EU countries has been restricted by legislation.
