The variety is a natural mutation of Garnacha Tinta. The variety received the name "Peluda" due to the presence of soft hairs on the underside of the leaves, which helps the vine retain moisture and reduce transpiration. It is a wine grape variety used both for producing varietal wines and in blends.
The variety is mid to mid-late ripening and vigorous. The bunches are medium-sized and conical; the berries are spherical, with thicker skin than that of Garnacha Tinta. It shows high resistance to powdery mildew and flower abortion, but is susceptible to downy mildew, eutypiosis, and gray mold.
Wines from this variety possess higher acidity and lower alcohol levels than standard Garnacha Tinta. The flavor profile includes floral and herbaceous notes, aromas of raspberry and blackberry, as well as soft tannins.
