The variety belongs to the Muscat family and was likely brought to Northern Italy from the Eastern Mediterranean in the Middle Ages. Genetically, it is the product of a natural crossing of Muscat Blanc with an unknown parent.
The plant is of medium-late maturity with very strong vine growth energy. Clusters have a loose structure, and the large round berries turn a golden-yellow color upon ripening.
The variety is relatively resistant to Botrytis cinerea due to the cluster structure and skin thickness, however, it shows limited resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew and is prone to chlorosis and black rot.
The berries contain juicy pulp with aromas of exotic fruits, honey, and spices. The grapes are used for the production of a wide range of wines: from dry and sparkling to sweet dessert versions made from partially dried grapes.
