The variety has small, compact bunches with berries covered in thin skin. It adapts well to cultivation on slate and granite soils. The early-ripening variety requires precision in determining the harvest time in order to balance acidity and varietal profile.
The purpose of the variety is wine production. Godello wines possess medium to high acidity, freshness, and aromatics with notes of apple, pear, peach, citrus, as well as floral and herbaceous undertones. The variety demonstrates the capacity for aging in both steel tanks and barrels.
