The variety belongs to the late ripening period, with vegetation starting in early April and harvest taking place in late September or October. The vines have medium to high vigor with long internodes on the shoots. The leaves of the variety are predominantly three- or five-lobed, wedge-shaped, and have pubescence on the underside.

The bunches are medium to large in size, generally elongated-conical in shape, and of medium density. The berries are medium, round, golden-yellow in color, and covered with a thin skin. Scientific literature indicates the existence of different biotypes of the variety, such as Glera Tonda and Glera Lunga.

The variety is characterized by high and stable yields, requiring thinning to maintain must quality. It has medium resistance to fungal diseases, shows sensitivity to powdery mildew (oidium), downy mildew (mildew), esca, and drought, and is prone to flower and berry drop.

Glera is a semi-aromatic variety with moderate sugar accumulation (about 17%) and high acidity. Its technical application primarily includes the production of sparkling wines using the Charmat method and, less frequently, the creation of still table wines with floral-fruity aromas.
