The variety belongs to the species Vitis vinifera and has an ancient history of origin from the Aragon region in Spain. Currently, the name Gironet is used locally in some areas of Spain as a local designation for this grape.

The plant possesses high vigor and heat tolerance. The variety is intended for the production of red and rosé wines and is characterized by a late ripening period. Depending on growing conditions, wine made from it may have good aging potential, pronounced tannins, and a rich aroma.
