The variety is a natural hybrid of Muscat Blanc and an unknown variety, presumably introduced to Northern Italy from the Eastern Mediterranean. It is used to create various types of wines: from dry aperitifs to sweet dessert drinks and wines made from partially dried grapes.
The plant has high vigor. The bunches are medium-sized, elongated, and loose. Large round berries turn golden-yellow upon ripening; the berry skin is thick. The variety is relatively resistant to grey mold, downy mildew, and powdery mildew, but is susceptible to chlorosis and Phomopsis.
The variety is most common in northeastern Italy and is also found in Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. Wines made from this grape have a rich muscat aroma with notes of tropical fruits, honey, and citrus with moderate acidity.
