The variety has ancient origins and, according to a hypothesis, originated from wild vines. The name "far from the eye" is explained by a morphological characteristic: the bunches are attached to the shoot by long peduncles, which is why they are located at a considerable distance from the bud. The vine is characterized by high vigor and stable productivity.
The variety belongs to the early or early-mid maturity group. The plant is sensitive to grey mold and mite infestation; with high yields, it is prone to potassium deficiency, which causes leaf browning. Under the specific climatic conditions of Gaillac, the variety is suitable for the production of sweet wines due to the development of noble rot.
A wine grape variety used for the production of dry, sparkling, and dessert wines. Wines made from it possess low acidity and aromas of apple, pear, citrus, and exotic fruits. The variety is often used in blends to give wines texture and roundness.
