The variety is a representative of the species Vitis vinifera subsp. sativa. It is included in grapevine genetic collections and is considered a parent variety for a number of unidentified genotypes.

The berries of the variety have a white skin color. The variety is an object of scientific research, including the study of susceptibility to diseases such as downy mildew. A synonym for the variety is El Encín.
