The variety is a wine grape with a long history of cultivation in the coastal region of Croatia. It is genetically identical to the Italian Malvasia Lunga Bianca group of varieties. The variety is demanding in cultivation and shows susceptibility to a number of fungal diseases, including downy mildew, which requires careful canopy management.
The plant belongs to the late-ripening group and, when planted in suitable locations, is capable of producing consistently high yields. The berries have firm skin. Wines made from this variety possess a golden-yellow color, full body, and aromas of vanilla, herbs, ripe pears, quince, apricot, and peach.
The variety is known by a multitude of local synonyms, among which are Rukatac, Krizol, Malvasia Lunga Bianca, Durdevina, and Kukuruz.
