Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is the result of a natural cross between the extinct local varieties Sabaté and Callet Cas Concos. It belongs to the late-maturing group and is characterized by high yield. The berries have dark skin and are large in size. The variety shows the best results when grown on stony soils rich in iron and limestone.

The variety possesses resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew, but is very susceptible to grey mold (Botrytis cinerea). The grapes are intended exclusively for winemaking. The resulting wines are distinguished by their light color, high alcohol content, and an aromatic profile with notes of cherry, plum, wild strawberry, violet, and Mediterranean herbs.

In winemaking, the variety is used both for the production of varietal wines and in blends, including combinations with the Callet, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah varieties. Wines made from it are suitable both for early consumption and for aging in oak barrels.
