The variety features vigorous vine growth and hermaphroditic flowers. The leaf is medium, wedge-shaped, and five-lobed. The cluster is medium, conical, winged, and dense. The berries are dark blue in color, have a thick skin, a thick waxy bloom, and juicy flesh.
The plant tolerates drought and dry stony soils well, but is susceptible to powdery mildew and various types of rot. The crop is prone to uneven ripening. It requires careful control during the vinification process due to the high level of tannins, which give the wines characteristic taste notes and deep color.
