The name Marisancho is not a unique identifier and, depending on the region of Spain, may refer to different grape varieties, most often Cayetana Blanca, Merseguera, or Pardillo. These are ancient wine grape varieties that are currently being actively restored for winemaking.

The characteristics of the carrier varieties vary. For example, the Cayetana Blanca variety has medium-sized clusters, bisexual flowers, rounded five-lobed leaves, and thin-skinned berries of a greenish-yellow color. Merseguera is distinguished by high drought tolerance and adaptability to different soils, while Cayetana Blanca is sensitive to powdery mildew and grey mold.

These varieties belong to late-maturing groups. The grapes are intended for the production of wines, including monovarietal and blends, which contributes to the preservation of regional biodiversity and local winemaking heritage.
