The clusters of this variety are small or medium in size, cylindrical in shape, and vary from moderately dense to dense. The berries are small or medium, ellipsoid, with thick skin covered by a thick waxy bloom. The color of the berries during ripening changes from dark purple to almost black; the pulp is juicy and sweet.

The plant has high vine vigor, requiring long pruning. The variety is susceptible to anthracnose, esca, downy mildew, and grey mold. Yields can vary significantly depending on the weather conditions of the year.

Wines from this grape are characterized by a deep cherry-red color, a high level of alcohol, and acidity. The aroma features notes of red berries, as well as specific earthy-mineral or animal undertones.
