The variety is native to the vicinity of Thebes and the Askri valley. It is a dark-skinned grape distinguished by low yield. The crop is adapted to cultivation on mountain soils at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level.
Wines from this variety are characterized by a deep ruby color. Their aromatic profile includes notes of red and dark berries, as well as floral and herbaceous-spicy undertones. The variety possesses mature tannins and high acidity.
Mouchtaro N is not a product of deliberate breeding but is an ancient local variety that has been preserved through the efforts of Greek winemakers.
