The variety is a wine (vinifera) representative of the species Vitis vinifera L. and is included in the official national variety catalogs of Portugal. It is not an independent single-varietal solution, but is traditionally grown as part of field blends along with other varieties such as Tinta Barroca and Touriga Nacional.
Open agronomic publications lack data on ripening dates, morphological characteristics of the plant, or its disease resistance indicators. The variety should be distinguished from other Portuguese varieties with similar names, such as Mourisco de Semente or Mourisco Tinto (Marufo).
