The variety is mid-late to late ripening. The vines have medium vigor. The leaf is pentagonal, five-lobed, and deeply dissected. The bunches are medium-sized, conical or conical-pyramidal in shape, from medium-density to very dense, and often winged. The berries are medium-sized, round to ellipsoidal, dark blue in color with a heavy bloom.
The variety is not resistant to frost (withstands down to -15...-18°C) or fungal diseases. Yield is unstable and low; the variety is sensitive to precipitation during the flowering period and has low bud fertility at the base of the cane, thus requiring training systems with long pruning.
The grapes are used to produce red wines with an intense ruby color, good body, and a balanced taste. Due to the potentially low alcohol content when vinified alone, the variety is more often used in blends, for example, for the production of Canavese Rosso DOC.
