The variety is autochthonous to the Apulia region, Italy. The vine has high vigor and an upright growth habit. Bunches are medium or large, compact. The variety is of medium or late maturity, well-adapted to a hot, dry climate and drought.
The purpose of the variety is wine production. Yield is moderate or high; pruning is required to obtain high-quality raw material. Wines from this grape are characterized by deep color, high alcohol content, pronounced tannin, and notes of dark fruits, spices, chocolate, and tobacco.
