The Pinot blanc variety is a genetic mutation of the Pinot noir variety that arose during the natural evolution and cultivation of the Vitis vinifera species. There are no separate breeding characteristics for the designation Pinot Blanc à Cremant, as they fully correspond to the traits of the main variety Pinot blanc.

This variety is classified as a wine grape and is traditionally used in winemaking. The prefix in the name indicates the variety's specialization in the production of Crémant-type sparkling wines.
